Anheuser-Busch was experiencing truck congestion entering and exiting their Granite City, Illinois Distribution Center. We collected field and systems data on the check-in/check-out process and prepared a simulation model of the process to quantify existing throughput and delays. Using the simulation model, we developed and tested strategies to streamline the process, address early truck arrivals, and increase throughput. We recommended additional entry/exit lanes, a second scale, and process changes that would yield a 62 percent reduction in the check-in/check-out duration, greatly enhancing warehouse efficiency.
